The National Confidential Inquiry is a national research project established at the University of Manchester in April 1996 and forms part of the School of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences. The Inquiry collects suicide and homicide information from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and is funded by The National Patient Safety Agency in England, the Welsh Office, the Scottish Office and the Department of Health and Social Services, Northern Ireland. The main work of the Inquiry involves the collection of detailed clinical information on all suicides and homicides that occur under mental health services.

The London Development Centre, aims to support the improvement of mental health and mental health services in London. The London Development Centre is now formally part of the Care Services Improvement Partnership (CSIP), which has been created to support improvements within a range of health and social care services, including those for children and young people, older people, people with mental health problems and people with a learning disability. CSIP brings together 8 care improvement programmes (including NIMHE) under the shared goal of improving people's lives through better services.

The National Treatment Agency (NTA) is a special health authority, created by the Government in 2001 to improve the availability, capacity and effectiveness of treatment for drug misuse in England. In other words, to ensure that there is more treatment, better treatment and fairer treatment available to all those who need it. The Government’s drugs strategy, updated in 2002, aims to give direction and coherence to separate government initiatives related to drug misuse. This strategy sets the context in which the NTA works to tackle the harms associated with problematic drug misuse.
